Children’s Day: CALDEV calls for end to child abuse

All stakeholders and well meaning individuals have been called upon to work harder towards eliminating all forms of child abuses in order to give the children the needed opportunities to exhibit their inherent potentials.

The call was made by the Founder and President of Children of Africa Leadership and Values Development Initiative (CALDEV), Representative Bamidele Salam in his message to celebrate this years’ Children’s Day.

Rep. Salam who is a federal lawmaker also tasked appropriate government institutions charged with the responsibility of creating enabling environment for the development, education and care of the children to redouble their efforts in order to give children the needed support that will catapult them to become responsible members of the society.

While projecting into an assured future of the young leaders, he further announced that CALDEV on its part will continue to create avenues and other forms of engagements for children to discuss issues that bother on their rights and welfare mechanisms.

While reminding the children that, as an organization, CALDEV is ready to identify, nurture and expose exceptional children to opportunities in volunteerism, 21st century leadership skills, responsible use of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) among others, the organization is also favourably disposed to enhancing their welfare, advocating for their rights and mentoring them to become change makers on the continent.

“More than ever before, it has become expedient for all stakeholders to galvanize efforts to offer assistance to the physically challenged, children with special needs and establish safe spaces for orphans and vulnerable children to drive inclusiveness.

“As we mark Children’s Day today, it is my desire that we all advocate, promote and support the legislative stakeholders and other policy makers in enacting and effectively implement necessary legislation to protect children from abuse, exploitation and harmful cultural practices as well as achieve other relevant goals.

“Accordingly, this is the surest way to promote and provide mentorship to young persons in their academics, career, gifts and talents. Time is fast running out. We all therefore need to act fast”, Rep. Salam advocated.
